Accounts, member pages, translation, and technical source data
You may post to Signal Exchange without an account. A public display name and published contribution or reply will be visible to readers. For every submission, we privately record the source IP plus estimated country, region, city, device type, operating system, browser, and User-Agent for security, abuse investigation, and post-publication management; these technical details are never shown publicly and may be inaccurate when a VPN, mobile network, or privacy tool is used. If you sign in, we process your email privately for authentication and account security. Your avatar, preferred language, saved topics, helpful reactions, contribution history, optional biography, location label, public username, and social links may be associated with your account. A public member page is opt-in; email is never displayed. Comment text may be sent to Google Cloud Translation to generate a clearly labelled cached translation. We do not send the commenter’s or reader’s IP, email, account identifier, or device details to the translation provider. Automated translations may be inaccurate, and the original remains available. Uploaded avatars are center-cropped in your browser and stored as a 160×160 image; replacing one removes the previous upload. Google or email authentication is provided through our identity service. You may edit or delete your own contribution from the member desk, or request account and data deletion by email.
